Ayodhya temple trust to decide Rai, Mishra’s fate today

AYODHYA : The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will meet at 3pm on Monday to take a call on the resignation by its general secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra in the wake of the raging controversy over the allegations of embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple.In view of security considerations, the venue has been shifted from Mani Ramdas Chhavni, the seat of the Trust president Nritya Gopal Das, to the Ram Temple complex.For the first time, general secretary of the Trust Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra are likely to abstain from the meeting.In another first, voting is likely to take place to decide on the pressing agendas.Treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri issued a fresh statement on Sunday saying that barring two instances involving cash donations, he has not been involved in other transactions.With his powers delegated to trustee Anil Mishra, the administrator of the temple, who is the second signatory apart from Champat Rai authorised to deal with the bank, Giri clarified he has not been involved with cash management exercise.Since there is no need for a voting process to accept resignation, the only matter which could be discussed and debated by the members would be restructuring of the Trust’s overall functioning.The Trust members could also collectively decide to convince Rai and Mishra to continue with their roles.Trust members Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati from Prayagraj, Parmananda Giri Maharaj from Haridwar, and treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri from Pune arrived in Ayodhya on Sunday to participate in the meeting.Mahant Dinendra Das, chief of Nirmohi Akhara was out of the city on Sunday but is expected to join the meeting. Similarly, video link has been sent to other trust members who could not attend the meeting physically so that they can give their feedback virtually.The other members are founder trustee and 98-year-old senior advocate K Parasaran who is settled in Chennai, Swami Vishwaprasanna Teerth from Udupi in Kranataka, and Krishna Mohan who hails from Hardoi.Four more ex-officio members and invited members from saffron outfits are also going to join the proceedings.The change of venue of the meeting was notified as inputs gathered by the police suggested that a different location should be finalized in view of security concerns.The Trust has been holding meetings at Mani Ramdas Chhavni as for the past few years 88-year-old ailing president of the trust, Nritya Gopal Das, is unable to participate in the meeting otherwise. He was scheduled to head the proceedings on Monday, but it is not clear if he would make it to the Ram temple venue meeting.Champat Rai is staying at the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra building in Ramkot that is situated close to the temple complex while Mishra stays in Darshan Nagar, but the two are expected to abstain from the proceedings. VHP functionaries working closely with the senior seer of the temple town said clinical environment similar to an intensive care unit room has been provided in his bedroom.“On important matters when his approval is sought, Mahant ji moves his head to share his feelings with others if he is not in a position to respond verbally,” a close associate of the mahant said. VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal said, “Trust is independent to make its decision. Whatever needs to be done in the best interest of the Ram temple, and its overall management would be known to all of us.”
