MADURANTAKAM: Without explicitly referring to the sex scandal involving granite baron R Veeramani, Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday condemned the previous DMK govt for failing to take appropriate action against an “individual accused of abusing and exploiting young children for years.”“Something truly atrocious is happening right now. I initially thought about not bringing up this issue here, but a person has been exploiting Tamil Nadu’s young girls and children for years. Although the case surfaced during the previous DMK tenure, the matter and its history were quietly buried. What kind of a deal was struck, sir? The entire state of Tamil Nadu is questioning this,” Vijay said while campaigning for TVK candidate K Maragatham in Madurantakam assembly constituency where a byelection will be held on Oct 6.Vijay turned the sensitive issue into a powerful campaign tool. He said, “Stalin sir (DMK chief MK Stalin), open your mouth and speak up. Others alongside you are also keeping quiet. Is there an unspoken understanding or collusion keeping you from speaking out on this issue?”He went on to criticize the DMK and its allies for posing as defenders of women’s rights. “We were the ones who imprisoned that person,” he stated.“If you cannot step forward and address the pain and anguish of these young children, what kind of politics have you been practicing all these years?
