‘Stalked, hit deliberately’: Delhi woman claims bikers chased her scooty before crash

A 21-year-old woman reported being stalked and harassed by two men on a motorcycle in South Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has registered a case and launched a probe after a 21-year-old woman alleged that two unidentified men riding a motorcycle stalked and harassed her before hitting her scooter near South Delhi’s Panchsheel Metro Station on Sept 12. She claimed to have fallen down on impact and suffered injuries.In her complaint, the woman, who works at an office in Saket, said she left work around midnight on Sept 11 and was riding home on her scooter. While crossing Hauz Khas and approaching Panchsheel Metro Station, she alleged that two men, apparently in their twenties, began passing remarks at her and then started following her on their motorcycle.She said she tried to escape by speeding ahead, but the men continued to chase her, came alongside her scooter and kept passing remarks. Then, they allegedly hit her scooter with their bike, causing her to lose control and fall. She skidded for around 100 to 150 metres on a road covered with stones, gravel and dust, suffering deep cuts and heavy bleeding, according to her complaint.Police said a PCR call regarding a road accident was received at Hauz Khas police station at 1 am on Sept 12. The investigating officer reached the spot and learnt that the woman had been taken to hospital. By the time the officer reached the hospital, she had already been discharged at her request.Police later contacted her and learnt that she was proceeding to another hospital in Noida. She subsequently left for her hometown for further treatment.Police examined CCTV footage from areas around the reported spot but could not see the alleged incident in the available footage. On Sept 14, the woman’s cousin visited the police station and viewed the footage, but could not identify the woman or the two men.A lawyer claiming to represent the woman submitted a complaint on Sept 15. When police contacted her again, she said she would return to Delhi after recovering.An FIR has since been registered. Police said they are trying to verify the allegations and establish the complete sequence of events.
