Oracle’s second mass layoff of 2026 came with a message its employees had already read once. The termination email that reached staff on Monday, signed “Oracle Leadership”, carried the same opening, the same reasoning and the same instructions as the note sent on March 31. Employees who had kept screenshots from the first round posted both versions side by side on Reddit, Blind and X. Apart from the date, they found nothing to tell them apart. The email runs to about 250 words and settles everything in its second paragraph. The role is gone, the decision followed “careful consideration” of business needs, and the working day on which it arrives is the last one. What follows is housekeeping: severance paperwork, a form to fill, a warning about company data. Oracle has not commented on the cuts, and the total number of employees affected is not yet known.

What Oracle’s layoff email tells employees, and what it leaves out
The note gives no reason beyond a “broader organizational change”. It names no team, no headcount and no manager to call. Severance is mentioned, but its terms are not. Those arrive later through DocuSign, and only after the employee signs termination paperwork. That order has drawn the most anger online. Employees on the r/employeesOfOracle forum said they were being asked to sign before they could see what they were signing for. One database engineer with four years at the company said the package came to seven weeks’ pay, well short of what he had expected.
Why the email asks for a personal address “immediately”
Employees must submit a personal email address to receive FAQs and separation documents. The reason is spelled out a paragraph later: access to computers, email, voicemail and files “will be deactivated soon”.For many, soon had already happened. Employees said logins stopped working around 4am Eastern on Monday and Slack went dark by 5.30am, so the 6am email landed in inboxes they could no longer open. Some were left waiting on a message to a personal address they had not had the chance to share. The same email also reminds recipients they cannot copy or forward any Oracle confidential information, which rules out emailing the note to themselves.Reports on social media named OCI, Fusion, NetSuite, Oracle Health, Customer Success Services and HR Technology among the affected groups. Several employees said they held “meets” or “exceeds expectations” ratings.
Oracle layoffs in India hit mid- to senior-level staff
The cuts reached India the same day. Oracle began a fresh round in the country on Monday, hitting several mid- to senior-level employees in web development and maintenance, TOI reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Some sources put the number at 1,000 to 1,500 employees, a figure TOI could not independently verify. The count within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in India is also unconfirmed. In the March round, severance in India broadly followed the N+2 formula, where N is years of service paid in months. Unvested restricted stock was forfeited. That round also left unfinished business. More than 600 former employees signed a letter in April seeking better severance, extended healthcare and stock acceleration. Oracle said it would handle concerns one person at a time.
Oracle’s restructuring cost rises to $2.8 billion
The emails followed a regulatory filing on Friday in which Oracle raised its restructuring estimate by about $700 million. The fiscal 2026 plan is now expected to cost roughly $2.8 billion, and Oracle linked part of it to adopting AI across some functions.Spending on data centres keeps climbing. First-quarter capital expenditure hit $28.5 billion, up from $8.5 billion a year ago, and the full-year forecast holds at $90 billion to $95 billion. Oracle had already shed 21,000 jobs in the year to May 31, leaving about 141,000 employees before this week. The March email and Monday’s email have the same wording, sender and send time.
