India is facing increasing power cuts as extreme summer heat pushes electricity demand to record-breaking levels across the country. Several major cities, including Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and parts of northern India, have reported frequent outages due to the massive rise in air conditioner and cooling appliance usage.

According to power authorities, India’s electricity demand has crossed historic highs as temperatures continue to remain above normal in many states. The surge in consumption has placed heavy pressure on power grids and supply systems, especially during peak afternoon and evening hours.

Residents in several areas have complained about unscheduled power cuts lasting from a few minutes to several hours, affecting homes, businesses, hospitals, and public services. In Chennai, many localities reported repeated outages due to transformer overload and increased demand. Delhi also witnessed localized electricity disruptions amid the ongoing heatwave.

Power companies and state governments are working to manage supply by increasing power purchases and monitoring grid stability. Officials have urged citizens to use electricity responsibly and avoid unnecessary power consumption during peak hours.

Experts warn that if heatwave conditions continue, electricity demand may rise even further in the coming weeks, increasing the risk of additional power shortages in several regions.
