NEW DELHI: As the world marks International Day of Yoga 2026, the Indian Navy’s INS Satvahana conducted a unique underwater yoga session showcasing an unusual blend of physical fitness, mental discipline and operational preparedness.The event saw 40 personnel from the unit performing synchronised yoga postures beneath the water surface, demonstrating exceptional breath control, concentration, endurance and composure in a demanding underwater environment.According to the Navy, the initiative was designed to highlight how yoga’s principles of controlled breathing, mindfulness and discipline can enhance performance under challenging operational conditions. The underwater setting added an extra layer of complexity, requiring participants to maintain focus and coordination while submerged.INS Satvahana said the event seamlessly combined the ancient wisdom of yoga with the unique demands of underwater operations, reflecting the Navy’s emphasis on holistic well-being and innovative fitness practices.The programme was organised as part of activities leading up to International Day of Yoga and aligned with this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”.The Indian Navy has increasingly incorporated yoga and wellness initiatives into its training ecosystem, viewing them as tools to improve physical endurance, mental agility and operational readiness among personnel deployed in challenging maritime environments.
