Talking about the proposed Iran deal in his recent post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump said that any agreement reached with Tehran under his leadership would be a “good and proper one,” unlike the nuclear deal negotiated during former President Barack Obama’s administration.“If I make a deal with Iran, it will be a good and proper one,” the post reads. His remarks come amid continued international focus on Iran’s nuclear programme and growing tensions in the Middle East. Also read: Trump turnaround: Open the straits, close the warCriticised Obama-era Iran dealWhile criticising the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal, Trump claimed that his proposed agreement would prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.“It won’t be like the one made by Obama, which gave Iran massive amounts of CASH, and a clear and open path to a Nuclear Weapon.”Trump said the deal currently under discussion would be the “exact opposite” of the previous agreement signed during the Obama administration. Also read: India can always count on me: Donald TrumpTrump dismisses critics, says negotiations are still underwayTrump also pushed back against criticism surrounding the potential deal, arguing that opponents were commenting on an agreement that “nobody has seen” and that is “not even fully negotiated yet.” He accused critics of speaking without understanding the ongoing discussions.“Our deal is the exact opposite, but nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet. So don’t listen to the losers, who are critical about something they know nothing about.”Positioning himself against previous administrations, Trump added:“Unlike those before me who should have solved this problem many years ago, I don’t make bad deals!”In a post shared earlier on May 24, Trump had also stressed the importance of patience during negotiations.“Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming a much more professional and productive one.”The deal under discussion reportedly involves a 60-day ceasefire extension, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and a plan for further negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
