The NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy has intensified after the matter reached the Supreme Court, triggering nationwide concern among lakhs of medical aspirants and their families. The apex court has sought detailed responses from the Central Government, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and investigating agencies regarding the alleged examination leak and the measures being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court expressed serious concern over repeated allegations of question paper leaks and questioned whether sufficient safeguards had been implemented despite previous controversies. The court observed that such incidents can severely impact students’ trust in the examination system and described the situation as deeply disturbing for young aspirants.
The Centre informed the Supreme Court that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring developments related to the NEET-UG 2026 controversy. The government assured the court that strict action would be taken against all individuals involved in the leak and that efforts are underway to strengthen examination security.
Several petitions filed before the Supreme Court have demanded major reforms in the conduct of national-level entrance examinations. Petitioners have sought a restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA), enhanced monitoring mechanisms, greater transparency, and court-supervised reforms to restore public confidence in the examination process. The court has also sought affidavits and status reports from the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, the NTA has informed the court that it has introduced additional security measures for the upcoming re-examination. These include stricter handling of question papers, enhanced surveillance systems, stronger digital security protocols, and improved coordination with law enforcement agencies to prevent any future breaches.
The controversy has sparked protests and widespread debate across the country, with students demanding accountability and a fair examination process. Investigating agencies, including the CBI, are continuing their probe into the alleged leak network, while several arrests have already been reported in connection with the case.
As the Supreme Court continues to monitor the matter, the case is expected to have significant implications for the future conduct of competitive examinations in India and could lead to major reforms in the country’s examination system.
