Iran has issued warning that any renewed military action by the United States and its allies would trigger “continuous, effective and painful” attacks on US bases and interests across West Asia, while countries supporting Washington would be treated as parties to the conflict.The warning was issued on Sunday by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the country’s central military command, which said Washington was preparing to resume military action against Tehran with the backing of some regional countries.“Should the United States make any mistake against the Islamic Republic of Iran, all its bases and interests in the region will be targeted in continuous, effective and painful attacks without any limitation or consideration,” the command said in a statement carried by state-run IRNA, as quoted by ANI.The Iranian command also warned regional countries against supporting any US military action, saying those that aligned themselves with Washington would be considered participants in the conflict and could no longer expect restraint from Iranian forces.The warning came as the US maintained a naval blockade on Iranian ports. US Central Command said its forces had redirected 109 commercial vessels as of September 20 as part of efforts to enforce the blockade.The standoff has raised further concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor. Iran has continued to restrict most shipping through the waterway and has said it will not reopen it until the terms of a June ceasefire agreement, as Tehran interprets them, are met.US President Donald Trump has meanwhile warned Tehran of severe consequences if it does not agree to a deal, saying Iran could face economic collapse or attacks on its leadership. Saudi Arabia did not immediately comment on those claims, while a Saudi-led coalition said it had foiled other attacks.Amid the looming threat, the US State Department had on Saturday warned Americans in the region of the potential for “unforeseen escalation”, urging them to exercise greater vigilance and prepare for possible flight cancellations and airspace closures.
