NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an orange alert for Delhi, forecasting moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms through the day after heavy showers drenched several parts of the national capital in the morning.The rain brought much-needed relief from the sultry weather, with dense clouds covering the city and temperatures dipping below normal.Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius, which was 1.3 notches below the seasonal average, according to the IMD. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius.Meanwhile, the city’s air quality remained in the “satisfactory” category. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 84 at 9 am, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 to 100 “satisfactory”, 101 to 200 “moderate”, 201 to 300 “poor”, 301 to 400 “very poor”, and 401 to 500 “severe”.
