Despite belonging to rival outfits, actor-turned-politicians C Joseph Vijay and Kushboo Sundar continue to maintain the warm bond that blossomed between them in the film industry even now. Days after Vijay took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Kushboo visited him at the Secretariat to felicitate him.

However, she did not visit him as the vice-president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu but as the president of the Small Screen Producers Council (STEPS). While addressing the media after their meeting, Kushboo said it was quite an emotional moment for her to see Vijay, whom she considers her little brother, occupy such an important position.

‘Vijay will bring significant change to Tamil Nadu’

“I feel very proud to call him my younger brother. Seeing him today was an emotional moment for me. Seeing my brother as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was emotional for me as an elder sister. When he hugged me and called me ‘didi,’ I felt truly happy,” she said.

Although Vijay and his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have always described Kushboo’s BJP as their “ideological enemy,” she maintained that he would usher in a new era for the state. She noted, “Regarding his leadership, it’s clear that he will bring significant change to Tamil Nadu as the Chief Minister. We see a very transparent government today. Everyone is focused on their work. He doesn’t prioritise personal relationships and focuses solely on what’s best for the people.”

‘Mutual love and respect forever’

Following her meeting with Vijay, Kushboo also shared a post on social media. Along with a photo of them together, she wrote, “As the president of STEPS, I, along with my team of office bearers, had the honour and privilege to meet the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Vijay, at the Secretariat and felicitate him. Thank you for your time, warmth and love.”

Kushboo added, “On a personal note, it was a very emotional moment for me to see my younger brother behind the table as the Chief Minister. Mutual love and respect are forever.”

Kushboo slams netizen for criticising her meeting with Vijay

Meanwhile, Kushboo’s meeting with Vijay also drew flak from certain sections of social media, with many calling them both out for their alleged silence on serious matters, such as the Coimbatore child rape-murder case, the killing of a teenage boy in Madurai, and the hurling of petrol bombs at the house of a woman by a man. “A 10-year-old child has been raped and murdered, a boy has been stabbed to death, and a petrol bomb has been hurled at a residential house. But the Chief Minister is still busy meeting film personalities. Is this the change people longed for? It’s time he gets out of celebration mode and starts concentrating on work,” a journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter) while quote-tweeting Kushboo’s post.

Coming down heavily on him, particularly for dismissing her as just another film personality, she wondered why the critic had conveniently overlooked her post, which revealed that she had also met with the Minister for School Education, Rajmohan Arumugam. Quickly assuming the journalist was lenient towards former Chief Minister MK Stalin, she questioned why he hadn’t asked such questions during the DMK rule.

“Sad to see this man who calls himself a journalist living with a selective amnesia. He only saw the pic with the CM, but not the one with Minister Rajmohan. He is ignorant of the fact that I am the state VP of BJP4 and also the president of the television producers’ council. In that capacity, I met the CM today. His so-called selective honesty (read as loyalty to one particular family) does not allow him to also think about the very warm bond I share with the CM,” she said.

Kushboo added, “Probably when you are part of a section of those who live in the world exchange of favours, you turn blind to the facts. And which book of rules says you shouldn’t meet people? I am sure you were the first one to go and meet the then CM in 2021. Did I see you asking the same question to the former CM when he met all the famous personalities during his term, despite Tamil Nadu going through the worst law-and-order times? And we have always stood by the atrocities against every child, every girl, every woman and every human at every given point.”
