GHAZIABAD: Three people were seriously injured after a speeding car allegedly ploughed into them at a petrol pump near Silver City on GT Road in the Kotwali area on Sunday night, following an argument over the vehicle being parked incorrectly for refuelling.The accused driver, identified as Deepu, was arrested on Monday, police said. The car, a white Maruti Swift, has also been seized.CCTV footage from the petrol pump purportedly shows the car crashing into a group of people before speeding away from the spot. The impact was so severe that one of the victims was thrown nearly five feet into the air.According to the complaint filed by the petrol pump manager, Anurag Chaudhary, a group of allegedly intoxicated youths arrived at the pump shortly after 10pm on Sunday. A worker, Manoj Kumar, asked the driver to position the car correctly near the fuel dispenser for refuelling.The accused allegedly accelerated the car while turning it and rammed into Manoj and two customers, identified as Sanjesh Kumar and Vikash Kumar. Manoj was allegedly run over before the driver fled the spot.All three victims were taken to the district hospital. Manoj was later referred to GS Medical College in Pilkhuwa because of the severity of his injuries. They are undergoing treatment, police said.Two diesel dispensing machines at the petrol pump were also damaged in the incident, according to the complaint.ACP (Kotwali) Upasana Pandey said an FIR had been registered against Deepu under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 281 for rash driving, 125(a) for acts endangering human life or personal safety, and 324(4) for intentional property damage or loss.
