Former live-in partner slits woman’s throat in Nashik, found hanging hours later

NASHIK: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her estranged live-in partner in Nashik’s Indiranagar area on Friday night, following a heated argument. Hours after the attack, the accused allegedly died by suicide, police said.Police identified that victim as Vaishnavi Aware and the accused as Sahil Lavhare (26), both natives of Amravati. According to police, the two had previously been in a live-in relationship, but Aware had recently ended it and shifted to Nashik, where she was staying at a paying guest accommodation in Indiranagar while searching for a job.According to police, an argument broke out between the duo on Friday night. “It turned violent when Lavhare attacked her with a knife. As Aware cried out for help, he slit her throat before fleeing the spot on a motorcycle,” an officer said.Residents alerted emergency services, and Aware was rushed to Nashik Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.Senior officers, including assistant commissioner of police (Ambad division) Sachin Bari and senior inspector Manohar Karande of the Indiranagar police, reached the scene and launched a search operation for the accused. “During the early hours of Saturday, we found Lavhare hanging from a tree at the Indiranagar jogging track. Preliminary investigations indicate that he died by suicide,” the officer said.Police further revealed that Aware was engaged to a Jalgaon man employed in Nashik. She had reportedly informed her fiancé that Lavhare had been harassing her and that he was scheduled to meet her on the night of the incident.The Indiranagar police were in the process of registering an FIR based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s fiancé at the time of going to the press.
