After the footage spread online, Poirier shared a personal message on Instagram, admitting that he is struggling with alcohol after stepping away from professional fighting and saying he now needs help.

The situation continued until additional officers arrived at the scene.The former UFC star eventually calmed down and cooperated. According to the footage, he even told one officer he had done a good job before being taken away.After the video began circulating online, many MMA fans expressed concern about Poirier. Early Wednesday morning, he addressed the situation on Instagram and acknowledged that alcohol has become a problem since his retirement.“I’m at the point where I need some help,” Poirier wrote. “Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me and alcohol isn’t the answer.” He also spoke about the impact alcohol has had on his family.“It has ruined my father’s life and I will not allow it to ruin mine, my family deserve me at 100 per cent.” Poirier added that he is trying to improve his situation and focus on making better decisions moving forward.

Some days I’m not so good,” he said. “It’s just, it’s up and down, honestly. Fighting has changed me forever. And in good and bad ways.”The father of two explained that he is still learning how to build a new routine around family life and projects outside the sport. “Just staying busy, man. I got to keep my mind busy. I’m a danger.”He continued by explaining why having goals is important for him. “If I’m not working towards something, trying to better myself and my family, I’m a danger to myself.”Poirier was later released on bail following the arrest. His latest statement suggests he is focused on addressing his struggles and finding the support he believes he needs during this next chapter of his life.
