'AI will kill all humans by 2030', Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang responds to the prediction

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has outrightly denied any prediction which says that AI will end humanity by 2030, saying that the technology doesn’t pose an extinction risk to humanity. His response comes quickly after President Donald Trump called this prediction a “hoax” and days after the public departure of Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon who resigned over deep safety concerns. Coxon cautioned that computer scientists currently engineering these tools genuinely believe the software could eradicate the human race by the end of the decade.“I believe the claims, The end of the world, [are] stirring fear across America. The people who are doing it make no sense to me. So they must be doing it for ulterior reasons – maybe it’s political, maybe it’s otherwise, maybe just attention grabbing,” Huang said in an interview with CBS News.“I don’t know what is the reason for it, but however it is characterized; 2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is a 0% chance it’s going to be the end of the world,” he added.

Huang says industry should not slow down

This is not the first time that Huang has pushed back the idea of eradication of humanity. During multiple appearances at events in recent days, the CEO has reiterated his stance that AI can be safely managed. Huang, whose company is the leading provider of AI processors, has also argued against the need for new regulations.During the CBS interview, which is slated to air in full on Sunday, Huang argued that the industry shouldn’t slow down.“We should go as fast as we can, irrespective of anyone else. But we would never ever, and never should, ship products before they’re ready and deliver products that are unsafe,” he said.Coxon kicked off a wave of AI unease with his resignation earlier this month. He warned that the researchers building AI “earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
