Ahead of UP elections, BJP announces new team: Rajnath Singh's son, Pooja Pal among 19 vice-presidents; see full list

LUCKNOW: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced a major organisational reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh, replacing all six regional presidents as part of preparations for the 2027 assembly elections.According to the list issued by state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary, the party has appointed 19 vice-presidents, eight general secretaries and 19 state ministers as office-bearers.The appointments were made after several rounds of consultations between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, senior state leaders and the central leadership, party leaders said.Former minister Suresh Rana, Satyapal Saini, Priyanka Rawat, Archana Mishra, Pooja Pal, Suresh Maurya and Rajesh Yadav have been named vice-presidents.The party has appointed Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, Geeta Shakya, Abhijat Mishra, Upendra Rawat, Sanjay Rai, Shankar Lodhi, Dilip Patel and Rajesh Chaudhary as general secretaries.The biggest change came at the regional level, with the BJP replacing all six regional presidents.

The new regional presidents are:

  • West Uttar Pradesh: Nawab Singh Nagar
  • Braj: Puran Lal Lodhi
  • Kanpur: Ram Kishore Sahu
  • Awadh: Avadhesh Dwivedi
  • Kashi: Ashok Chaurasia
  • Gorakhpur: Vinod Rai

The party retained Manish Dixit as the state media coordinator, making it his fourth consecutive term in the role. Dinesh Pratap Singh has been appointed chief spokesperson, while Himanshu Raj Pandit will serve as the state social media coordinator.BJP leaders said the new team was aimed at expanding the party’s social outreach and strengthening its organisational machinery before the next assembly elections.They also indicated that the appointments were made keeping in mind representation across regions and communities, amid the Samajwadi Party’s continued emphasis on its “PDA” (pichhda, Dalit and alpsankhyak) social coalition.
