Banks remained closed today in several Indian states on account of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) celebrations, one of the most important festivals observed by the Muslim community. The holiday was declared as per the Reserve Bank of India’s regional holiday calendar.

States including parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal witnessed bank closures as people celebrated the festival with prayers, family gatherings, and traditional feasts.

Despite physical bank branches remaining shut, customers continued to access online banking, UPI services, mobile banking apps, ATMs, and digital transactions without interruption. Major banking services such as fund transfers, bill payments, and online shopping remained fully operational throughout the day.

Bank officials advised customers to complete important branch-related work either before or after the holiday, especially services involving cheque clearances, document verification, and cash-related transactions.

Bakrid, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and is celebrated across India with religious prayers and charitable activities. The festival also led to increased travel and festive shopping activity in many cities.
