NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old judicial officer, Aman Kumar Sharma, died by suicide in Delhi’s Safdarjung area, triggering a police investigation and serious allegations of harassment and domestic conflict from his family.According to information cited by news agency ANI, his body was found hanging.Recounting the sequence of events, the father-in-law of Sharma’s sister said, “…I spoke to my son on the call who told me that they are taking Aman to Safdarjung Hospital. By the time I reached the hospital, the doctor had already declared him dead…” He added that, “As per the statement given by his father to the Police, around 10 pm last night, Aman had called him saying that he was distressed and it had become difficult for him to continue living.“According to the family, Sharma’s father rushed from Alwar and reached Delhi around midnight. “Upon arriving, he learned that Aman had been having conflicts with his wife. He told his father that he had been harassed for the last two months,” the relative said. The family further alleged that Sharma’s wife Swati, also a judicial officer, and her sister Nidhi Malik, an IAS officer posted in Jammu, had been involved in ongoing disputes. “According to Aman, Nidhi Malik had been interfering in his life, and she was controlling his household…” the relative claimed. The situation escalated the following morning. “Aman’s father said that his daughter-in-law told him that if you don’t leave from here, she would call the police…” the relative said, adding that attempts to contact her parents failed as “they had blocked his phone.”An argument reportedly broke out inside the house soon after. “According to him, Swati was extremely angry and shouting, while Aman was crying. After a while, the noise stopped… He waited for a while, thinking that the argument had been resolved,” he said. What followed led to the tragic discovery. “When he went to check up on them after some time, he asked Swati about Aman’s whereabouts, to which she replied that she did not know… When he called Aman’s mobile, he heard it ringing inside the bathroom.” Despite repeated knocks, there was no response. “They tried a lot, banged the furniture against the door, but the door didn’t open… Then the neighbours told them that there was a window in the shaft. So they got a ladder. The guard Shankar climbed the ladder, broke the window and entered the bathroom. He found Aman hanging…”Police have taken cognisance of the statements and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, including the allegations of harassment. Further details are awaited pending the post-mortem report and official findings.A police team reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and began inquest proceedings. The body has been sent for post-mortem, officials said, adding that further investigation is under way.“No foul play has been established so far. However, all angles are being examined as part of the inquest,” a senior police officer said.According to official records, Sharma joined the Delhi Judicial Services on June 19, 2021.
