8 terror suspects held in Kashmir; arms-ammo, posters seized

SRINAGAR: Joint teams of security forces arrested eight terror suspects and seized arms, ammunition, and other incriminating material in separate operations in three Kashmir districts.Six arrests were made in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and two in Pulwama, also in south Kashmir. A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered in north Kashmir’s Sopore district, J&K Police said Tuesday, claiming the action had dealt a major blow to terror networks operating in the Union Territory.During a naka check at Shopian’s Heerpora, a joint team of the Army, CRPF and J&K Police intercepted a two-wheeler. Three suspects — Junaid Muzaffar Dar, Aamir Yousaf and Junaid Bashir Dar; all from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district — were arrested after two hand grenades and incriminating posters were recovered from their possession, a police statement said.In a separate operation in Shopian, three terrorist associates — Haris Manzoor, Ashiq Hussain and Arif Ahmad Kumar; all from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district — were arrested by a joint patrolling team of the Army’s 34RR, CRPF, and local police. Security personnel seized a hand grenade, two AK-47 magazines, 20 rounds and incriminating posters from them, the statement said.

In Pulwama, a joint team of the Army and police launched a search operation based on intelligence inputs and arrested two terror suspects with a pistol, hand grenade, and ammunition, an Army statement said.In yet another operation in Sopore’s Manzseer area, a combined team of the Army, police and CRPF seized one AK-series rifle, three magazines, four hand grenades, a huge cache of ammunition, and other war-like stores, the Army statement said, adding that further searches were under way.
