The Telangana government has reorganized Hyderabad’s civic administration by dividing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three separate municipal corporations. This restructuring, formalized through an official government order, aims to improve administrative efficiency and governance in response to the city’s rapid expansion and increasing urban population.

Two new corporations, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, have been established, while the remaining zones will continue under a reorganized GHMC.

Cyberabad Municipal Corporation will encompass areas previously part of the key western and northwestern zones of the city. Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation will cover the eastern and northeastern zones. The reorganized GHMC will retain the central and southern zones.

This reorganization follows the earlier integration of multiple surrounding urban local bodies into a larger core urban region, significantly expanding the metropolitan footprint. The government had also previously approved a revised administrative structure involving new zones and circles to enhance local governance.

Each of the two newly created corporations is projected to serve a population of approximately 3.5 million residents. The reorganized GHMC will cater to nearly 7 million people.

The administrative restructuring is expected to streamline service delivery, strengthen infrastructure planning, and enable more focused urban management across the metropolitan region. Municipal elections for the newly formed corporations and other urban local bodies are anticipated in the coming months.
