With Diwali fast approaching, Tamil cinema is sticking to tradition with three major releases lined up for the weekend preceding the festival. Following Idli Kadai, no other significant Tamil films are slated to hit screens until these festival titles arrive. What’s striking this year is that none of the three are the typical star-driven spectacles one expects during the festive season. Instead, they spotlight three rising actors who are steadily carving their place in the industry.
Let’s look at the three Tamil films that will be coming out this Diwali:
Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude
The most anticipated release of this festival season is Dude, starring Pradeep Ranganthan. Directed by debutant Kirtheeswaran, the romantic comedy has already generated significant pre-release buzz on social media, fueled by its groovy first single “Oorum Blood,” composed by Sai Abhyankar. Riding on the blockbuster successes of Love Today and Dragon, Ranganthan has carved out a strong fan base of his own. The film also features Mamitha Baiju as the female lead, alongside Sarath Kumar, Hridhu Haroon, Rohini, and Aishwarya Sharma.
Dhruv Vikram’s Bison
The sports drama Bison, set in the world of Kabaddi, marks Mari Selvaraj’s return to directing, following Vaazhai (2024). Bison stars Dhruv Vikram, Anupama Parameswaran, Pasupathy, Ameer, Lal, and Rajisha Vijayan in pivotal roles.

Harish Kalyan’s Diesel
Harish Kalyan, riding high after the successes of Parking (2023) and Lubber Panthu (2024), returns with the slightly delayed Diesel. The film first caught attention two years ago when its chartbuster single “Beer Idli” went viral on social media. Promising gritty action, Diesel also stars Athulyaa Ravi, Vinay Rai, Sai Kumar, Ananya, and Karunaas.
