Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to expedite land availability for industrial investment, with the state government having already acquired 20,431 acres for this purpose. This directive comes amid a surge in industrial land demand across Maharashtra, extending beyond traditional hubs to emerging regions. During a review meeting of infrastructure projects, officials reported that 8,969 acres are currently available with various government departments and can be mobilized for industrial use.
Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the increasing demand for industrial land across Maharashtra. This demand is not confined to major cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. It is also rapidly growing in emerging regions such as Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Solapur.
He assured that the state government will provide all necessary assistance to facilitate industrial growth and meet investor demand across these regions.
The meeting also reviewed land acquisition progress for key infrastructure projects. These projects are being implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
Projects under review included the Shaktipeeth Expressway, Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, Nagpur–Gondiya Expressway, Bhandara–Gadchiroli Expressway, Nagpur–Chandrapur Expressway, Navegaon–Surjagad Mineral Corridor, and Jalna–Nanded Expressway.
Fadnavis stressed the importance of timely project completion.
“All ongoing state infrastructure projects must be completed within three years,” he stated. To achieve this, he called for faster land acquisition processes.
To further stimulate investment, Fadnavis proposed a new initiative.
He proposed submitting a plan to transfer unused government land from various departments for industrial use free of cost. This measure aims to offer industrial plots at lower rates. It is expected to increase industrial investment and generate large-scale employment.
Uday Samant, Maharashtra’s Industries Minister, provided clarification on environmental considerations.
“No forest land was acquired during land acquisition in the Konkan region,” he clarified. This underscores the government’s commitment to balancing development with environmental protection.
The Maharashtra government’s proactive approach signals a strong pro-investment stance. The push to unlock land availability and accelerate infrastructure projects is designed to meet rising demand. Offering affordable industrial plots is also a key component. These measures are expected to bolster Maharashtra’s position as a leading industrial and manufacturing hub in India. The initiative aims to drive long-term employment and economic growth throughout the state.
