Lightspeed Venture Partners has announced the closing of $9 billion in committed capital across six funds, as it looks to double down on investments in artificial intelligence (AI).

The raise is the largest in the firm’s history and adds to a growing list of investors betting on AI and its transformative potential.

Lightspeed has backed more than 165 AI-native companies to date, deploying over $5.5 billion, with the majority of investments made at the seed, Series A and Series B stages.

“AI has opened up entirely new markets that simply did not exist two years ago. Compounding progress in AI will drive profound shifts in professional services, scientific discovery, autonomy and several other markets in 2026. This fundraise allows us to continue backing the founders defining this transformation,” said Ravi Mhatre, founder and partner at Lightspeed.

Notably, the venture capital firm was the largest investor in Anthropic’s $3.5 billion Series E funding round earlier this year. Anthropic is best known for operating the AI chatbot Claude, one of the major competitors to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

Lightspeed is also an investor in companies such as xAI, Databricks, Mistral, Glean, Abridge, SSI and Skild AI.
