GreenCell Mobility, backed by Eversource Capital, is set to deploy 570 electric buses in Delhi as part of the Delhi Government’s e-bus project. This initiative aims to improve commuter connectivity and public transport services across the national capital. The new fleet will consist of 12-meter, fully air-conditioned electric city buses. These buses are designed with higher battery capacities and engineered for Delhi’s specific operating conditions, including heavy traffic and challenging road infrastructure. The buses will operate from depots located in Rajghat, Dilshad Garden, and Seemapuri. This large-scale deployment follows GreenCell Mobility‘s recent success in securing USD 89 million in mezzanine funding. The funding came from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), British International Investment (BII), and Tata Capital. This investment demonstrates strong institutional confidence in GreenCell Mobility’s capacity to deliver scalable electric mobility solutions throughout India’s transportation sector.

Devndra Chawla, Managing Director and CEO of GreenCell Mobility, commented on the development.

GreenCell Mobility currently operates over 1,200 electric buses on both intra-city and inter-city routes. The company also manages more than 270 charging stations nationwide. They have secured projects under the National E-Bus Program and the PM Seva E-Mobility Program. These projects are underway in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Puducherry.

Following the recent funding round, GreenCell Mobility plans to expand its fleet to over 3,700 electric buses across India.

In addition to its city operations, GreenCell Mobility manages 50 intercity electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). This further solidifies their presence in the sustainable public transportation domain.

The deployment in Delhi represents a significant step in India’s transition towards clean, electric public transport. It reinforces GreenCell Mobility’s position as a key contributor to the country’s e-mobility transformation. With supportive government policies, institutional funding, and growing operational capacity, the company is well-positioned to lead the next phase of sustainable urban mobility in India.
