European leaders and policy experts have called on European Union member states to strengthen Europe’s role on the global stage, warning that growing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties require a more united and assertive approach from the continent.
In recent remarks, Friedrich Merz stressed that Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security, economic stability, and diplomatic influence. He highlighted challenges such as ongoing conflicts near Europe’s borders, global trade disruptions, cyber threats, and shifting power dynamics between major world economies.
Leaders emphasized the need for closer coordination among European nations on defence, foreign policy, and energy security. Strengthening industrial capacity, reducing strategic dependencies, and investing in innovation were also identified as key priorities to ensure long-term resilience.
Analysts note that Europe’s ability to act collectively will be crucial in maintaining global stability and protecting its interests. With 2026 expected to bring further political and economic pressures worldwide, calls for a stronger and more unified Europe are likely to intensify in the coming months.
