Delhi airport assault: Cops collect CCTV footage of pilot assaulting flyer; Air India Express orders internal probe

NEW DELHI: Police have collected CCTV footage of the alleged assault involving an off-duty Air India Express pilot at Delhi airport and recorded statements as part of the ongoing investigation. The case relates to a complaint filed by passenger Ankit Dewan, who alleged he was assaulted near the security area of Terminal 1 on Dec 19.Police said an FIR has been registered on the basis of Dewan’s email complaint under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of BNS. Dewan alleged the incident occurred after he objected to staff members jumping the security queue, following which he was verbally abused and assaulted by the pilot, identified as Virender Sejwal. Air India Express acknowledged the incident and said the pilot has been removed from official duties pending an internal inquiry.
