IndiGo hikes fuel charges for all flights: Here's how much more you will end up paying
IndiGo hikes fuel prices

Aviation giant IndiGo on Monday announced a hike in fuel charges on both domestic and international flights from Tuesday, as rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs push up the airline’s operating expenses. The revised charges will apply to all new bookings made after 0001 hrs on October 6, 2026.For domestic flights, the fuel charge will vary based on the distance travelled, ranging from Rs 375 ($3.89) to Rs 1,300. On international routes, the revised charge will range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000.

Here’s how much more will you pay based on the distance:

Domestic route distanceRevised fuel charge
Up to 500 kmRs 375
501–1,000 kmRs 600
1,001–1,500 kmRs 900
1,501–2,000 kmRs 1,150
Above 2,000 kmRs 1,300

IndiGo, the country’s largest airline said that ATF prices have remained volatile in recent months, particularly following geopolitical issues in the Middle East. The latest month-on-month increase of more than 14% has taken ATF costs to levels among the highest in the last decade.“Given that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) makes up a significant share of airlines’ operating costs, this rise is expected to impact airlines’ cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo,” the statement said.IndiGo said the sustained rise in ATF costs had required it to re-calibrate fuel charges across its domestic and international routes. Aviation turbine fuel makes up a significant share of an airline’s operating costs, and the rise in fuel costs is expected to impact airlines’ cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo.Meanwhile, the Middle East conflict has now stretched beyond seven months, keeping oil markets on edge. However, despite the recent spike, oil prices remain well below the $126-a-barrel levels seen earlier in the conflict.
