Former Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, died of cardiac arrest in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (September 15, 2026). He was 56.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said in a post on X that he was deeply shocked by the sudden death, and that it was heartbreaking that Mr. Alla Nani had died so young. He expressed his condolences to the family.
Born in Sanivarapu Peta in Eluru on December 30, 1969, he won the town’s Assembly seat for the Congress in 2004 and 2009, quit the party in 2012 and joined the YSR Congress Party the next year. He lost Eluru in 2014, entered the Legislative Council in 2017 and won the seat back in 2019.
He was Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education from June 2019 to April 2022, holding the health portfolio through the COVID-19 pandemic until the Cabinet was reshuffled. He lost Eluru in 2024 by over 62,000 votes, resigned from the YSRCP on August 9 that year saying he was leaving politics, and joined the Telugu Desam Party in February 2025.
Former Rajya Sabha member V. Vijayasai Reddy also condoled the death. “His dedicated public service and contribution to the state will always be remembered,” he wrote on X.
