Jason Sanjay on bond with mom Sangeetha, dad Vijay: ‘She thinks about me, my sister 24/7’

He also acknowledged a layer of hesitation that exists in most parent-child relationships. “Even though I am scared of sharing a few things with her, thinking what she would say, we are completely honest with each other,” he said. When asked about his relationship with both parents more broadly, Jason Sanjay was candid about the limits of that closeness. “I don’t have that close friendship with mom or dad, allowing me to share anything with them,” he said.

His closest confidant in the family, he said, is his younger sister Divya Saasha. “I am best friends with my sister,” Jason Sanjay said. “We used to fight a lot as kids. Typical cat-and-mouse sibling relationship. But now she is in college and I am in Chennai. So, as the distance grew, we started missing each other more.”

Explaining the relationship with his sister, Jason Sanjay shared an ancedote, “Normally she calls me ‘bro,’ but when she is mad, she calls me ‘anna,’” he said, referring to the Tamil word for elder brother, which in their household apparently doubles as a warning sign.

Jason Sanjay, born in 2000, studied filmmaking at the SAE Institute in London before returning to India to pursue direction. Divya Saasha, born in 2005, is currently in college. Both children have largely been kept out of the public spotlight throughout their father’s career, with only brief on-screen appearances in Vijay’s films.

He also disclosed that Divya was the first person he narrated the story of Sigma to, and that her feedback has always been honest. Sigma, Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, stars Sundeep Kishan in the lead and is produced by Lyca Productions with music by S. Thaman. Jason has said he also has “an actor within me” but that acting will have to wait until after Sigma is complete.
