2 killed, 2 injured after landslide hits Mumbai’s Kurla; several feared trapped
The landslide brought down debris onto two to three rooms of the nearby chawl structure.

MUMBAI: Two persons were declared brought dead, and two others injured after a landslide hit Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, early Wednesday morning.Six to eight people are feared trapped under the debris, according to local residents.The incident was reported at 3.48am.The fire brigade declared it a Level-II incident at 4.32am and launched a rescue operation.The landslide brought down debris onto two to three rooms of the nearby chawl structure.Rescue operations are underway with the help of specialised rescue equipment. Around 50 BMC labourers and NDRF personnel are currently engaged in the operation.Two persons, identified as Sahil Ansari (28) and Mohamad Samir (14), were taken to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.Two other injured persons, Sohel Ansari (18), who suffered a head injury, and Mohamad Ansari (14), have been admitted to Kurla Bhabha Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.Following the landslide incident in Ghatkopar’s Chirag Nagar the BMC has issued a statement.“Residents are routinely alerted by the BMC and advised not to stay at vulnerable locations where there is a possibility of landslides or falling rocks, and to relocate to safer places. Such notices are also issued as part of pre-monsoon precautionary measures,” the statemnet said.“In the case of Hill No. 3 in Ashok Nagar, where the incident took place the @mybmc had also alerted local residents about the risk and conducted awareness campaigns, ” the statemnet said.
