‘Took my jewellery’: Actor Aditi Sharma accuses husband, in-laws of domestic abuse

Television actress Aditi Sharma has filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband and his family

MUMBAI: Television actress Aditi Sharma (29), known for her roles in shows such as Apollena – Sapno Ki Unchi Udaan, Rabb Se Hai Dua and Kaleerein, filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law on July 30.An FIR was registered at Goregaon Police Station based on Sharma’s complaint alleging that the three harassed her physical and mental, and was involved in domestic violence, assault, verbal abuse, questioning her character and misusing her streedhan (bridal jewellery).Goregaon police said they were probing the case and were yet to make any arrest. TOI is in possession of the FIR in which Sharma named her husband and in-laws as accused. The trio was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 3(5) (common intention), 316(2) (breach of trust), 352 (intentional insults), and 85 (cruelty committed by a husband or his relatives against a married woman). A Goregaon police officer confirmed the FIR was registered and that assistant inspector Amita Marathe was probing the case.In the complaint, Sharma said: “I met my husband during online acting classes in June 2021. We became friends, and our friendship later turned into love. Since September 2024, we both were living in a rented house in Goregaon in a live-in relationship for two to three years. With the consent of both our families we married on November 12, 2024, in a rented house in Goregaon belonging to my family. We both bore the minor expenses of this wedding. Two to three days after the wedding, my parents returned to Delhi. At that time, my my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law were with me.”Sharma stated that her mother-in-law used to visit Delhi frequently. “After marriage, my husband used to criticize me for my clothes. He also used to quarrel with me over minor domestic issues. He would not give me money for household expenses. On the contrary, he used to take money from me. On January 1, 2025, my husband was having coffee in the morning when he started arguing with me over a domestic issue and began to abuse me, saying ‘You won’t be my wife now, you won’t be anyone’s wife.’ “My husband used to hurl dirty abuses at me, alleging that I was having an affair with another man outside. My husband had stopped talking to me. He also used to sleep in a different room and would occasionally taunt me and then go back to his room and has caused mental distress,” said Sharma in the FIR.A police officer said Sharma mentioned that as there quarrels were increasing, her husband had his mother and sister to resolve there disputes. “She complained instead of resolving there disputes, they kept taunting her, causing her mental distress. She further complained that her in-laws took her wedding jewellery–two gold chains, four gold rings, a diamond ring, a gold mangalsutra, two gold bangles. After that, her husband started checking her mobile and suspecting her. And all the three harassed her without any reason,” said the police.
