PATNA: Two men were arrested in Bihar’s Nawada after a video showing a young man and woman being harassed by a group of men went viral on social media, police said on Thursday. The action came on the directions of Nawada Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman after the July 8 video showed the accused allegedly forcing a burqa-clad woman travelling on a motorcycle with her male cousin to remove her veil and compelling the man to apply sindoor (vermilion) on her forehead.Police have registered a case against six named accused, while raids are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.Sadar-2 SDPO Rahul Singh said the woman was returning home with her cousin after appearing for an examination. Due to the heat, they stopped under a tree near Madhopur in the Charkhi Pahad area to rest and drink water when a group of local men allegedly approached them, abused them and began harassing them. The situation escalated when the accused allegedly pressured the woman to marry one of them. Someone recorded the incident, and the video later surfaced on social media.Based on the victim’s complaint, police registered an FIR at Thali police station. Investigators identified the accused by scientifically verifying the motorcycle registration number visible in the viral video, leading to the arrest of Dharmendra Kumar and Bahadur Chaudhary.Police said efforts are on to identify and arrest others seen in the video.“The accused belong to a different community,” Rahul Singh said.
