MUMBAI: A portion of an under-construction metro rail pillar collapsed onto an autorickshaw in Mulund West on Saturday afternoon, leaving three to four persons feared injured, officials said. The incident was reported around 12.20 pm near the Johnson & Johnson company on LBS Road. According to preliminary information received by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), a cement segment of the pillar gave way during ongoing work and fell directly onto the passing rickshaw. Fire brigade personnel, police teams, metro staff, ward officials and 108 ambulance service personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, though their condition was not immediately known. Authorities cordoned off the area, and traffic movement on the busy LBS Road stretch was affected for some time. The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained and a detailed inquiry is expected to follow.
