MHOW: At least 22 people in Patti Bazaar and Chandar Marg areas of Mhow town in Madhya Pradesh fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated drinking water late Thursday. According to officials, 9 of them are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, while others are being treated at home.
Sanitary superintendent of Mhow Cantonment Board, Manish Agrawal, told reporters, “All patients, most of them children, were admitted at the hospital after they complained of nausea and vomiting. When their blood samples were examined, it was found they were suffering from jaundice, and the doctors treating them opined it could be due to contaminated water. Teams of the Cantonment Board and the health department have reached Patti Bazaar and Motimahal areas for a primary survey of the affected areas.“

Indore collector Shivam Verma visited the town to review the situation. Chief medical health officer Dr Madhav Hasani instructed health department teams to be deployed in the affected areas and samples of water were being collected in the town. “The patients are under treatment and the administration is closely monitoring the situation.” Verma told reporters after visiting the patients at the hospital, adding that no patient was currently in a critical condition.Bhagirathpura reports another deathA resident of Bhagirathpura, Badriprasad Litoria (63), died at a private hospital on Friday afternoon after battling for life for nearly a week. His family alleged that consuming contaminated drinking water in the locality had led to his death. “My father was healthy before this. He fell ill after consuming water supplied in the area. Contaminated water killed him,” deceased’s son, Shailendra said. District admin, however, has not attributed the death to diarrhoeal illness. Congress state president Jitu Patwari claimed 27 people have died due to contaminated water.
