Jana Nayagan Movie Release Date Madras High Court Hearing Live News Updates: The political actioner marks ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s final film.
Jana Nayagan Movie Release Date Madras High Court hearing News Live Updates: With the Madras High Court all set to resume hearing in the Jana Nayagan case, both the makers of the movie and fans of ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay are eagerly waiting to see if the hurdles ahead of the political action drama will finally be cleared, paving the way for its release. A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, will hear the matter on Tuesday, January 20. The Supreme Court has asked it to decide the case on this date itself.
Marking Vijay’s final film before his full-fledged political entry, director H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan was supposed to hit the screens on January 9 as a Pongal release. However, a few days before the scheduled release date, the CBFC informed the movie’s makers that the board’s chairman had decided to refer Jana Nayagan to a revising committee. Following this, Team Jana Nayagan approached the High Court, where the CBFC maintained that a fresh committee had been appointed to review the movie again. The board is likely to reveal on Wednesday whether this process has been completed and what excisions the makers should now subject the movie to.

Although Jana Nayagan initially received relief from Justice PT Asha of the High Court on January 9, when she directed the CBFC to immediately grant a U/A 16+ certificate to the movie, the makers’ happiness was short-lived. Additional Solicitor General ARL Sundaresan, appearing for the certification board, immediately made an urgent mention before the Chief Justice of the High Court, and the division bench subsequently stayed the single judge’s order. The court then posted the matter for further hearing on January 21, after the Pongal holidays.

While the makers subsequently approached the Supreme Court and filed an appeal against the High Court division bench’s order, it refused to entertain the petition and asked the Madras High Court to decide on the matter on January 20. The apex court also questioned the pace at which the case was handled in the High Court.
Also starring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Narain in key roles, Jana Nayagan is bankrolled by KVN Productions. The political action drama features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih also questioned the pace at which the High Court single bench disposed of the matter initially within one day. Jana Nayagan Release Date Hearing LIVE Updates: Vijay’s final film earns over 1 million ‘interests’ on BookMyShow
Although the movie has yet to receive an official release date, director H Vinoth’s ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan remains one of the most — if not the most — anticipated films of the year. Interestingly, the political action drama has achieved a significant feat by clocking over one million ‘interests’ on the online entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow, suggesting that its opening day collection will be extraordinary.
Jana Nayagan Release Date Hearing LIVE Updates: Parasakthi director Sudha Kongara says she is Vijay’s ‘biggest fan’
Even before Jana Nayagan found itself caught in the middle of a legal battle, the political action drama was embroiled in controversy after a section of ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s fans began targeting director Sudha Kongara and actor Sivakarthikeyan for planning to release their Parasakthi alongside Jana Nayagan. Although the simultaneous release of multiple films is pretty common during festival seasons such as Pongal, Vijay’s fans felt the release of Parasakthi would affect Jana Nayagan’s overall box-office performance, prompting them to launch a smear campaign against it.
Now, Sudha herself has stepped forward, condemning the prolonged denial of certification for Jana Nayagan. She also called herself the “biggest Vijay fan.” In conversation with India Today, she said, “I love Vijay, probably I am his biggest fan, and there is no two ways about it. Because I have met him and told him the same. We were at one point supposed to do a film together. That did not pan out due to various reasons.”
Sudha added, “Now all this that is happening, where his film was supposed to come with us… at the audio launch of Parasakthi, the first thing I said was that I will watch my film 200 times, but FDFS I will go watch Vijay’s film. I wanted the film to be released so badly. What happened to Jana Nayagan, where just two days before release, the censors held you back… it should not happen to any film. It was never our intention to compete with his film. How do you compete with the biggest star in the country? You cannot.”
Jana Nayagan Release Date Hearing LIVE Updates: Why Vijay needed a film like Rajinikanth’s Sivaji as his ‘last’ outing
Had ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay received — or director H Vinoth managed to create — something like S Shankar’s Rajinikanth-starrer Sivaji: The Boss (2007), where every frame was built around and deeply rooted in Rajinism, it would have been the perfect goodbye for the star. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “The might of the Indian state is fighting over one cinema. What a disgrace. #jananayagan.”
In a separate post, he clarified that his remarks weren’t only about the Vijay-starrer but rather a critique of the general “misuse of government agencies.” The National Award-winning cinematographer noted, “My tweets about Jana Nayagan is not about one film, but the future misuse of government agencies in all aspects, which threatens democracy, be it state government or central government. This is the land of Mahatma Gandhi, not Donald Trump.”
