Irina GhoseAnthropic has appointed former Microsoft India managing director Irina Ghose as its managing director for India, as the artificial intelligence firm looks to deepen its presence in the country.
Ghose brings more than three decades of experience in the technology sector. Most recently, she served as managing director of Microsoft India, where she led enterprise AI adoption across sectors including banking and financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, technology services and government.
Over her career, she has held senior leadership roles spanning sales, enterprise solutions, education and go-to-market strategy.
“Indian organisations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety and long-term impact matter as much as innovation,” Ghose said in a statement, adding that Anthropic’s focus on responsible AI aligns with her belief that technology should deliver inclusive and lasting value across India’s diverse communities.
The appointment comes as India has become Anthropic’s second-largest market globally for Claude.ai usage, the company said. Anthropic is set to open its India headquarters in Bengaluru in February.
“India has emerged as the second-largest user base for Claude.ai, reflecting rapid momentum in AI adoption. From digital natives and software firms to large enterprises and public-sector institutions, India is entering a phase of scaled deployment that will enhance competitive advantage and shape the future,” Ghose wrote on her LinkedIn.
“AI tuned to local languages will be a force multiplier across society – from education and healthcare to workforce development and job skills,” she added.
Anthropic also said its chief executive, Dario Amodei, and other senior leaders will attend the government-led India AI Impact Summit in February, following which the company will formally open its Bengaluru office.
In an earlier interview with ET, senior executive Peter McCrory said nearly half of Claude.ai’s usage in India is driven by work-related tasks. Amodei, during a visit to India in October, had described the country as central to the global AI landscape, citing alignment between India’s challenges and Anthropic’s mission around multilingual deployment and responsible governance.
The company had announced plans last year to establish an office in India and hire across multiple roles. It is also exploring partnerships with conglomerates, healthcare institutions, educational organisations and startup accelerators to build locally relevant AI applications.
