When the principal allegedly failed to enforce it, over 50 students attended classes wearing saffron shawls. Amid the hijab–saffron shawl standoff, the college has now banned mobile phones.Students said they were upset about the mobile checks conducted on campus to prevent photos and videos of students clad in saffron shawls from circulating on social media and tarnishing the college’s reputation.“Students in hijabs are in uniform on campus. However, on Wednesday, two students attended class wearing hijabs, prompting other students to wear shawls Thursday. There is no issue. Meetings are being held with all staff and appropriate measures will be taken after discussions with students,” said Viresh Kummur, principal.
