The 2025 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Friday honoured Rajinikanth honoured Rajinikanth on Friday for completing five remarkable decades in Indian cinema. The legendary actor attended the closing ceremony of the 56th edition of the festival in Goa, accompanied by his family.

While accepting the honour, Rajinikanth addressed the audience and said, “I thank the Central Government for honouring me for 50 years in Indian cinema.”

He also expressed his gratitude to the Goa government.

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “Fifty years feel like they passed in a moment, perhaps because I love acting so much. I truly wish to be reborn as an actor—and as Rajinikanth.”

The award was presented by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and actor Ranveer Singh. As he walked back to his seat, the entire auditorium rose to its feet, offering him a standing ovation befitting his legendary status.

This year, the festival also celebrated the centenaries of several iconic filmmakers and artistes, including Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla, Ritwik Ghatak, P. Bhanumathi, Bhupen Hazarika, and Salil Chowdhury, with screenings of restored classics from their filmographies.

Ahead of the ceremony, pictures of Rajinikanth with his family went viral on social media. He was seen posing with his wife Latha, daughters Soundarya and Aishwarya, and his grandsons, drawing heartfelt reactions from fans.

Upon his arrival in Goa, Rajinikanth received a warm welcome from hotel staff and admirers. A video circulating online captured him being greeted with dhol beats, while he acknowledged the crowd with folded hands.

This year’s IFFI, held from November 20 to 28 in Goa, brought together filmmakers and artistes from around the world. Along with celebrating Rajinikanth’s illustrious journey, the festival highlighted major milestones in both Indian and international cinema.

According to the organisers, the event featured 13 world premieres, five international premieres, and 44 Asian premieres—making it one of the most vibrant editions of the festival in recent years.
