In July this year, celebrity chef and actor Madhampatty Rangaraj and costume designer Joy Crizildaa announced their marriage, along with news of her pregnancy, on social media. However, in August, Crizildaa filed a police complaint accusing Rangaraj of abandoning her and deceiving her by concealing his existing marriage. She later approached the Women’s Commission, which initiated an inquiry and recommended that the Chennai Police Commissioner and the Crimes Against Women and Children Division take action against him. Recently, Crizildaa sparked fresh controversy by claiming on social media that Rangaraj had admitted before the Women’s Commission that the child is his. The chef-actor, however, has disputed this version and issued a clarification through a social media post.
In his post, Rangaraj denied making the statement attributed to him and asserted that he had never consented to an inquiry by the Women’s Commission. He further claimed that he was coerced into marrying Crizildaa under duress, as she threatened to release private photos and videos of him.
“I did not give any consent to the Women’s Commission investigation. I never admitted that I had married Joy Crizildaa voluntarily. The marriage took place under duress, as she threatened to release private photos and videos to defame me. Also that marriage was forced to extort money from me,” wrote Madhampatty Rangaraj.
Rangaraj also clarified that he has no problem taking the whole matter to court because he has the evidence to prove all his claims. He wrote, “Joy Crizildaa asked for a maintenance amount of Rs 1.5 lakh per month and an EMI of Rs 1.25 lakh for her BMW car. I refused. I have never avoided a DNA test; if it is scientifically proven that the child is mine, I will take care of it for the rest of my life. I did not give any statement as mentioned in the Women’s Commission’s recommendation. I will appeal against it in court, and I will submit the necessary evidence to prove the truth.”
On the other hand, Madhampatty Rangaraj’s first wife, Shruti Rangaraj, who is an advocate, still has “Madhampatty Rangaraj’s wife” written on her Instagram bio. Joy Crizildaa talked about Shruti during a conversation with Asianet and said, “She knows everything. No one should think that this marriage took place without her knowledge. Rangaraj came to me and firmly said, ‘I told her everything. She has no problem.’”
Rangaraj and Shruti have been married for over a decade, and they have two sons as well.
