Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan, which is being celebrated as his swan song as he embraces politics, is doing particularly well in terms of its pre-release sales. The film, which recently released first single with the nostalgic track ‘ Thalapathy Kacheri’, has reportedly recouped its investment by collecting over Rs 325 crores from its pre-release deals alone, as per Sacnilk. With over two months to go for its official slated release, the film has made a record deal in all its theatrical release versions and streaming rights put together already, the trade tracker said.

Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, has racked in Rs 100 crores from its total Tamil Nadu theatrical rights alone, a record feat for any Tamil film in recent memory. The reports also state that the makers have bagged Rs 80 crore as part of its overseas rights. Vijay has always been the top box office earner from Tamil cinema, especially with his last two films which scored well at the box office despite mixed reviews.
His previous release Greatest of All Time collected Rs 252 crores from India alone, while racking in Rs 160 crores from overseas market, bringing its total earnings to Rs 457 crores. His release, Leo grossed Rs 605 crores from its entire theatrical run, with the domestic earning standing at Rs 341 crores and the overseas share coming in at Rs 204 crores.
Jana Nayagan is rumored to be an official adaptation of Telugu blockbuster ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. The film will also feature Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol and Narain in other important roles. The audio rights for the film with music by Anirudh Ravichandar is also hot property, which was sold for Rs 35 crores. Amazon Prime Video is the official streaming partner for Jana Nayagan, having reportedly paid Rs 110 crores as part of its exclusive pre-release deal.
The pre-release numbers might go over Rs 400 crore mark, considering the satellite rights and other area rights are still pending to be sold off by the makers. Jana Nayagan is slated to release worldwide on January 9, 2026.
