The grand audio launch of Thalapathy Vijay’ swan song, H Vinoth’s action thriller Jana Nayagan, took place in Malaysia on Saturday. As around 90,000 fans of the actor showed up, the actor acknowledged that after Sri Lanka, Malaysia has one of the largest Tamil populations in the world.
“After Sri Lanka, Malaysia has one of the largest Tamil populations in the world. We can recall many Tamil films shot in Malaysia. Even Billa (2007), starring our friend Ajith, was filmed here. My films Kaavalan (2011) and Kuruvi (2008) were also shot here. I would like to thank the Malaysian government as well for their support in helping make this event possible,” said Vijay at the event.

On his decision to quit films
Last year, Vijay formed his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and announced that he’d be contesting in the Tamil Nadu state elections. As a result, he’s decided to step away from films after Jana Nayagan. “For me, one thing matters. People come and stand in theatres for me. For that reason, I’m ready to stand for them for the next 30–33 years. For these Vijay fans, I’m stepping away from cinema,” he said at the event.
“I’ve faced every kind of criticism right from day one, the same old story. But my fans have stood by me from the very beginning, supporting me relentlessly for 33 years. I entered cinema hoping to build a small sand house, but you gave me a palace. That’s why, for the fans who stood for me, I will stand for them. This Vijay will repay his debt of gratitude,” he added.
All praise for his team
Vijay also acknowledged the efforts of the team that’s worked on Jana Nayagan, including co-stars Prakash Raj and Mamitha Baiju, director H Vinoth, and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. “I am giving Anirudh a new title, ‘MDS’. Can you guess what it stands for? Musical Departmental Store. He’s like a store you walk into and never run out of choices with unlimited songs and BGMs waiting inside,” quipped Vijay.
“H Vinoth is a highly socially responsible filmmaker. We were meant to collaborate earlier and had discussions back then. It’s great that we’ve finally come together now,” added Vijay. A number of filmmakers were in contention for helming Vijay’s final film before his political plunge, including Karthik Subbaraj. The latter even pitched multiple ideas to the actor, but he decided to settle for Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan instead.

Heaping praise on Mamitha, Vijay said at the event, “Mamitha isn’t just a ‘dude’. From this film onward, she’ll become a sister cherished and celebrated by families everywhere.” However, he reserved the best compliments for Prakash Raj. “Usually, the best chemistry is between the hero and heroine. But for me, it has always been with Prakash Raj sir, right from the Ghilli (2004) days. Thank you, Prakash Raj sir.”
Vijay couldn’t have wrapped up the event without dishing out key life lessons. “If you want to succeed in life, you may not always need friends, but you do need a strong enemy. Only when there is a strong enemy do you become stronger,” he said. “A small help or a small good deed will help you in the future. Don’t trouble or hurt anyone,” he added later.
At the end of the audio launch, Vijay shook a leg on Jana Nayagan song “Thalapathy Kacheri” for one last time. Visibly emotional, he also took a selfie video with the audience present at the event.
Also starring Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Priyamani, the KVN Productions film Jana Nayagan is slated to release in cinemas on January 9, 2026.
