Sudha Kongara’s period political thriller Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sreelala in lead roles, has witnessed a massive fall in its domestic box  office collection on its first Monday, its third day since release. The film opted for a release on Saturday instead of Friday to avoid competing directly with H Vinoth’s action thriller Jana Nayagan, being touted as Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, before the latter’s release was postponed due to troubles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Parasakthi box office collection

On Monday, Parasakthi managed to earn only Rs 3 crore, which was quite a decline (70%) from its Sunday (day 2) earnings of Rs 10.1 crore. Its highest single-day collection remains its opening day when it earned Rs 12.5 crore on Saturday. As per Sacnilk, the total box office collection of Parasakthi after three days in India stands at Rs 25.6 crore.

Parasakthi vs previous Sivakarthikeyan films

Parasakthi is Sivakarthikeyan’s lowest opener in the past couple of years. Before the Sudha Kongara directorial, it was his 2024 sci-fi action comedy Aayalaan, helmed by R Ravikumar, which earned Rs 13.95 crore, almost half of what Parasakthi did, in its first three days at the domestic box office. Sivakarthikeyan’s last two pan-India releases performed significantly better across languages in the first three days at the domestic box office.

Rajkumar Periasamy’s 2024 period war drama Amaran earned Rs 61.55 crore while AR Murugadoss’ action thriller scored Rs 48.15 crore last year. However, Parasakthi has performed far better than Kongara’s last release and Bollywood directorial debut, Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira, a remake of her 2020 film Soorarai Pottru. Sarfira managed to earn only Rs 12 crore in its first three days in 2024.

Parasakthi’s release window

Parasakthi had CBFC troubles of its own till the very last minute. However, on the eve of its scheduled release, the makers agreed to go ahead with the 25 cuts suggested by the CBFC since they didn’t want to let go of a Pongal release date, especially when Jana Nayagan’s release had been put on hold. However, it continues to face competition from Maruthi’s Telugu horror comedy The Raja Saab. The Prabhas-starrer has earned Rs 113.40 crore across all languages in its first four days at the domestic box office, though having earned only Rs 1 crore in its dubbed Tamil version.
