According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 4.35 crore on Day 1. On Day 2, it registered an 11.49% jump, collecting Rs 4.85 crore. With this, the film’s total India collection stands at Rs 9.20 crore.

The Tamil version of Kaantha registered an overall occupancy of 27.37% on Saturday. The film saw 15.78% occupancy in the morning shows, 27.23% in the afternoon, 25.31% in the evening, and 41.15% during the night shows.

The Telugu version, meanwhile, recorded an overall occupancy of 18.05% on Saturday, with morning shows at 12.40%, afternoon shows at 20.15%, evening shows at 18.18%, and night shows at 21.47%.

Kaantha is produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana Dagubatti’s Spirit Media. The production houses recently announced that the film collected over Rs 10.5 crore worldwide on its opening day.

Kaantha was initially speculated to be based on the life of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the first superstar of Tamil cinema, but the makers clarified that “it’s a work of fiction.” The film also faced a legal challenge from the grandson of Bhagavathar, who alleged that it portrayed his grandfather in a negative light.

Kaantha’s digital rights have been acquired by Netflix, and the film is expected to begin streaming four weeks after its theatrical release.
