Jana Nayagan Movie Release Date Postponed Live Updates: The Madras High Court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification to issue a U/A certificate for Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan on Friday. The film was previously scheduled for a release on January 9, but was postponed on January 7 after the makers were not granted a certificate by the CBFC.
After the court ruled in favour of the film, the Additional Solicitor General representing the CBFC, made an urgent mention before the CJ of the Madras HC, seeking a hearing of a writ appeal against Justice PT Asha’s order. The CJ indicated that the request would be considered and the appeal would be taken up on Friday or on Monday.

Previously, the film was screened for an examining committee of five members on December 19. The committee recommended 27 cuts, following which, the film could be granted a U/A certificate. Later, one member from the examining committee wrote to the CBFC chairperson claiming that their objections had not been appropriately addressed. After this complaint, the chairperson referred the film to a revising committee.
Now that the court has ruled in favour of the makers, it is yet to be seen when the film will hit the theatres. The makers had previously claimed that the production house had invested close to Rs 500 crore in the film and were betting big on the Pongal weekend.
Jana Nayagan is being touted as Vijay’s last film as the actor is planning to enter politics with his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). An audio launch for the film was held in Malaysia a few weeks ago. Directed by H Vinoth, the film also stars Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol.
