
Legendary film producer M Saravanan, also known as AVM Sarvanan and the owner of AVM Studios in Chennai, died a day after his 86th birthday. As per reports, the Kollywood filmmaker passed away in the early hours of Thursday, December 4, due to age-related health issues. Considered to be a pillar of Tamil cinema, M Saravanan was known for his AVM Productions and AVM Studios.

Public can pay homage to M Saravanan’s mortal remains on Thursday afternoon at the AVM Studios. While fans have been mourning his death on social media, many from the South industry also paid a tribute to the legendary filmmaker. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin also met AVM Saravanan’s family at the studio.The funeral will take place at 4 pm.

Actor Vishal took to social media and wrote, “Just heard the news that the legendary filmmaker AVM Saravanan sir, the film industry’s most iconic producer and the man behind AVM studios, just passed away and has left us all forever. Sir, I remember meeting you as a kid, as an assistant director, as an actor, as a producer, ever since I entered AVM studios, which was a learning ground for me to be what I am today in the film industry.”
Vishal further added, “I always wanted you and your production house to continue making great films, but today we stand to lose another great film personality in the Indian film industry. Your memories will always linger in our minds, and your films will always be a learning ground for aspiring filmmakers. May God give more strength to his family at this toughest time. RIP.”

Producer G Dhananjheyan shared via X, “Very sad to learn Legendary Producer #AVMSaravanan sir is no more. A soft-spoken, intelligent, humble & simple person with great vision and a trendsetter. My heartfelt condolences to the AVM Family. Rest in peace, sir.”
Cinematographer Thiyagarajan tweeted, “With deep sorrow, I mourn the loss of AVM Saravanan Sir. I had the honour of working under AVM for the Perazhagan movie as Associate Cinematographer. His discipline, care for the crew, and the personal appreciation he sent me still remain unforgettable. RIP, Sir.”
Actor Simran took to X and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of legendary AVM Saravanan sir, a stalwart of Tamil cinema. His contributions to the film industry are immeasurable & his legacy will live on. My heartfelt condolences to AVM family and staff, true icon of simplicity. Miss you, SIR.”
Who was AVM Saravanan?
A renowned producer in Tamil cinema, AVM Saravanan, was born in 1939. He was the son of producer AV Meiyappan, who founded the AVM Studios in 1945. AVM Productions has bankrolled some iconic films like Sivaji: The Boss, Naanum Oru Penn, Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Vettaikaran, Leader, Ayan, and more. AVM Saravanan also once served as the Sheriff of Madras in 1986.
He is survived by his son, MS Guhan, who is also a producer. AVM Studios also bankrolled the 2022 Tamil web series Tamil Rockerz, which is streaming on SonyLIV.
