A major tragedy struck South Delhi after a multi-storey commercial building collapsed near Saket Metro Station in the Saidulajab area on Saturday evening. The incident triggered a massive rescue operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, police personnel, and local authorities. Rescue teams continued searching through the night amid fears that more people could still be trapped under the debris.

According to officials, the building housed coaching institutes, cafes, offices, and paying guest accommodations. Reports indicate that construction work was underway on one of the upper floors when the structure suddenly gave way. The collapse reduced the entire building to a huge pile of concrete, steel, and rubble, causing panic across the neighborhood.

Authorities have confirmed multiple fatalities, while several injured victims were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre for emergency treatment. Rescue personnel managed to pull numerous survivors from the wreckage, though some remain in critical condition. Officials stated that most of the victims were students and young professionals living or working in the area.

Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud cracking sound followed by a massive cloud of dust before the building collapsed. Residents rushed to help rescue trapped people even before emergency services arrived. Many nearby structures were also affected by falling debris, raising concerns about the structural safety of surrounding buildings.

Preliminary investigations suggest possible structural weaknesses and ongoing construction activity may have contributed to the collapse, though officials have not yet announced the exact cause.
